From time to time we will be posting gameweek reviews from the FPL Surgery Slackers. This week we have reviews from Luke Jerdy (18/19 rank: 9,009), Stephan Haugsrud (18/19 rank: 1,710) and the Iceman (18/19 rank: 2,243).
Here is a list of players that have caught Luke’s eye from GW1.
Pukki – great first touch and finish, caused the best defence for clean sheets last season lots of problems. Could he be the best option at £6.5m? More time to assess as they play Chelsea and City in the next 4.
Buendia – lovely pass for the Pukki goal, he looks confident on the ball, decent price but would prefer him at £5.5
KdB – one of the best players on the pitch, looks well up for this season and wants to make up for lost time. Firmly in my thoughts.
Trezeguet – got in the right areas for Villa and had a few chances. Remains to be seen if he is clinical enough. Subbed off at 58 mins, will earn him a shout out on the General’s pod.
McGinn – lovely run and finish, he was everywhere. Could be a great £5.5 enabler.
Kane – Harry doing what Harry does, primarily causing me a headache. Took his goals well, he’s fresh, he’s hungry. 25-30 goals looks to be a good bet. Can we fit him in with Sterling and Salah? Sacrifices would have to be made elsewhere, at the moment I don’t fancy playing Lundstram!
Femenia – will be interested to see his stats, looked lively at RB for Watford. Can’t see them keeping CS though.
Zaha – is he better than Siggy for a £1.0 saving? He is the type of player that will want to force someone into paying £80m+ for him in the next window. Very interested in Wilf.
Rico – nice option at £4.0? Took some set-pieces. Won’t be interested until first wildcard if he can hold down a place in their team.
Barnes – he has improved his goal tally every year and from this evidence he could get more than 12 this season. Really good finisher, could become the best £6.5 option quite quickly. From GW5-14 Burnley only play Chelsea from the top-6. Oosh!
Stephan’s GW1 Saturday Review
Bournemouth didn’t create much. Fraser not looking threatening at all. King on the wing for most of the game. Thinks this points to Sheffield United being a solid defensive unit. Lundstram maybe their best player along with an attacking Enda Stephens. Henderson very solid in goal. I will keep an extra close eye on Stephens. Found himself in very many attacking positions, this years Doherty type player? (Doherty lite that is). Sheffield United not looking good going forward even against a Bournemouth team that seems to struggle a bit defensively from time to time. Bournemouths new goalkeeper Ramsdale were shaky. Gave a lot of unessecary rebounds and not good in his fieldwork. Sterling captain GW3 anyone?
Rico took some set pieces off Fraser.
Spurs 3 – 1 Aston Villa
Spurs really struggled without Eriksen. And they looked very good with him (and some more tired Aston Villa players). If Eriksen stays, Spurs will be good. If he leaves, Spurs is still a big question mark for me. Kane took his goals very well. Aston Villa a pretty good side except they ran out of gas at the end. Much better at defending than Norwich.
Ndomele were involed in most attacks. Could be ok value after a while.
Wesley were absolutely shockingly bad. Just stay away. McGinn if anyone on Aston Villa, although it’s still to early for me to call anything.
Burnley 3 – 0 Southampton
Worst ever performance from Southampton. It’s maybe what Burnley does to team. Che Adams did pretty muh everything bad. Seems miles away from an FPL option. Soton were shocking, abysmal, embarrassing. One would believe you’ll se a reaction vs Liverpool, because Hassenhuttl has to be furious with this. There defense was as bad as the rest. Could have been more goals for Burnley. Only Redmond looked lively and forced Pope to make a good save.
Burnley had total control of the game defensively. Pope could well repeat his best sesaon. Pumps a lot of long balls forward and even had a key pass to Barnes. Barnes MOTM. He did exceed xG last year and with good reason. He is a brilliant finisher. Doesn’t need many chances and even with JRod in the side I think Barnes in GW5 could be something to look for. Wood more anonymous. Mee/Tarkowski bossed a very weak Soton attaack.
Watford 0 – 3 Brighton
Wow! This Brighton team is interesting. They looked very, very comfortable at the back with Dunk/Duffy/Burn. Solid performance. Created some down the right with Montoya and Gross. Gross were good all game. Dunk moved the ball well and great through-pass to Maupay for his goal. I think both Ryan/Montoya/Dunk are good options on a Brighton side which already looks to have found some play in them with Potter. Passing game not bad at all and there were several occasions they played out from behind wehre they earlier would have hit it long.
Watford had Deulofeu playing OOP, in midfield. Created some and was subbed mostly because of fatigue/injury I guess. Gray missed a good chance. Deeney grumpy and did nothing other than foul players. Big positive for Watford is Kiko Femenia at right back. Very attacking, has a good pass and do also shoot. One to watch out for. Other than that Watford looked out of it, think Gracia got outplayed by Potter.
Crystal Palace 0 – 0 Everton
Really fun game to watch despite it being goalless. Both teams should have scored. Coleman kept on running down the wing and craeted chances. Missed a sitter as well. Seems a very good pick at 5.5. Digne also good on the left. Siggy missed a couple of good chances, other than that he was really poor. Gbamin came on for Gomes and Everton looked a worse team. Kean did next to nothing, but not easy with 10 men either. Everton looked in real good shape. Still running and looked energetic closing in on 90 minutes despite being a man down.
Crystal Palace’ most danagerous man was my man Ayew! Until Zaha came on for him, which also makes Ayew not good for fpl despite a good price. Zaha played pretty much as a striker in a 442 and was back to being himself. Creating things out of virtually nothing. I would not mind getting him in. Didn’t seem more grumpy than usual despite not getting his transfer. Little else to say on Palace, should have conceded and shoud have scored. Pickford made two great saves.
Iceman’s Sunday Review
Newcastle Vs Arsenal
Not a great game, Aubameyang showing his quality and the premium price tag, Ritchie and Hayden the only other options worth discussing.
Pépé and Cabellos not worth mentioning as they didn’t have long to show what they can do.
AMN got forward well, but not an option for me, I can see Arsenal conceding in every game they play and he doesn’t create enough for me.
Ritchie I think will be a good option when the fixtures ease up, send some decent crosses into the box. Newcastle as a team look controlled defensively but I see some errors leading to goals, not much wrong today other than the goal.
Hayden gets forward at times, has a yellow card in him, played the whole game unlike Shelvey.
Aubameyang. Loads of chances for him, his movement is up there with the best, I think he will give pope many saves next week but will score too. Arsenal not quite jelled yet, looks a lot like the start of last season when they didn’t have a fully formed team. GW6 OR 7 for me to start investing in Arsenal. No one worth mentioning for me
